In 2025, shipments of AIDC (AI Data Center) energy storage batteries reached 14.6 GWh, and under an optimistic scenario, the additional shipments are expected to increase to 267.0 GWh by 2030.
Recently, research institution EVTank, in conjunction with the EVTank Economic Research Institute, jointly released the "White Paper on the Development of China's AIDC Energy Storage Battery Industry (2026)". The white paper states that by 2025, AI development will be booming globally, with AI large-scale model parameters growing exponentially. AIDCs (AI Data Centers) are rapidly emerging, with single-rack power consumption soaring from single digits to tens or even hundreds of kilowatts. AIDC energy storage has become an essential infrastructure for ensuring stable power supply, meeting green electricity assessments, and shortening delivery cycles, driving shipments of AIDC energy storage batteries (BESS) to reach 14.6 GWh.
EVTank stated that with the accelerated penetration of AI into various fields, data center electricity consumption will continue to increase. Based on a 20-50% energy storage ratio and a 3-5 hour energy storage duration, under a neutral scenario, data center electricity consumption is expected to account for 3% of total social electricity consumption by 2030, driving new demand for AIDC battery energy storage (BESS) to reach 63.7 GWh, with existing demand reaching 247.1 GWh. Under an optimistic scenario, data center electricity consumption is expected to account for 6% by 2030, driving new demand for AIDC battery energy storage (BESS) to reach 267.0 GWh, with existing demand reaching 607.0 GWh.
